How do I add/edit the categories?
There are 18 pre-defined and unlimited custom categories. You can select any name, icon and color for the custom categories. To add a new category, tap on the plus button on category selection screen. To edit any custom category at later stage, do a long press on that category's icon from category selection page.
You also have an option to assign hashtag (#tag) to any transaction from the edit screen. This can help in sub-categoring your transactions. For eg #flight, #hotel, #cab, #subscriptions and so on.
What are the different types of transactions and their purpose?
All transactions are grouped under 3 heads:
1.Expenses: All charts (ie line trend, pie chart, bar chart etc) are prepared using expense transactions. Expenses can be further categorized under different heads like Groceries, Dining, Fuel etc. Cashback and refund transactions are also included as negative entries under Expense head to ensure accurate accounting.
2.Income: These transactions are your income transactions such as salary, bonus, rental income etc. Monthly total income is also displayed on line chart (alongwith expenses) so you can your income vs expense trend in a snapshot.
3.Others: Everything apart from Expenses/cashbacks/refunds and Income are included under this "Others" head. This includes transactions such as inter-account transfers, monthly credit card bill payment, wallet recharge/topup etc. Transfer transations are not included in the charts.
Does FinArt support e-wallets?
Yes. All types of accounts (including e-wallets) are supported.
When you topup/add money to wallet, you will receive debit SMS from your debited account. This transaction is moved from "Expense" to "Others" transaction head as this is a non-expense transaction (money moved from your bank acocunt or credit card to wallet account).
Why EMI and SIP transactions are displayed under "Others" head instead of Expense head?
EMI (loans) and SIP (investments) are special type of transactions. One may like to treat these transactions as an Expense or as a Non-Expense based on personal preference. By default FinArt treat these transactions as Non-Expense but you can change the type to Expense from Edit screen. If you do so once, FinArt will start treating these transactions as Expense in future.
Account balance displayed in FinArt is not correct. Why?
FinArt displays the account balance as per the balance information available in latest SMS for that account. It can also adjust the balance automatically based on latest debit / credit sms for the account. To ensure that balance is adjusted based on debit/credit sms, please make sure auto-adjust setting is turned on for that account account from account settings page.
How can I Add spends manually if no SMS received?
At times, the bank may not send an SMS for a transaction or you may not receive it due to poor network/on roaming etc. You can add such spends manually by tapping the "+" button on home screen and selecting the account from the drop-down list.
How can I allocate ATM withdrawal amount to spends?
By default, FinArt adds all ATM withdrawals and cash income into your cash-in-hand amount and display it on home screen (pie/bar/list charts). When you add cash spends manually, cash-in-hand amount is reduced with equal amount.
If you want to exclude cash-in-hand amount from expense total, you can do so from app settings by turning off "Treat cash-in-hand as expense" switch. If you do so, your total monthly expense amount will include cash expenses and ignore the cash-in-hand amount.
I am unable to see any spends in the app (Xiaomi, Vivo, Lenovo)
Installed FinArt on a new phone, or have reset it and there are no SMSes? Once you start receiving SMSes, FinArt will automatically detect them and display your spends.
